Harris Teeter taking over??!

Harris Teeter

I'm not sure if this is going to be good news or bad!
In the Times Dispatch today, it looks like Harris Teeter is (possibly) buying out Ukrops!
I am feeling kind of bitter sweet about this one.
Ukrops is a christian owned grocery store chain that is locally owned. They sponsor just about everything here in Richmond, including the famous Ukrops 10K!
On the other (and *ahem* selfish) hand, Harris Teeter oftentimes TRIPLES coupons!
Not to mention, I would be working ABOVE the Harris Teeter! For those of you that don't know, the YMCA that I work at is above a Ukrops grocery store! Let me tell you, it definitely has it's advantages!
Very interesting! I'm going to miss people rolling my groceries out to my car for me!

HT is from Charlotte, NC and so am I so all I can say is Yay Harris Teeter! Personally (and yes, I am biased) I think the 'Teeter is MUCH nicer (not The Fresh Market nice, but nicer) than Ukrops. AND it's open on Sundays when most people (again, in my opinion) have the time/energy to grocery shop. I don't buy beer/wine but if I did I know I can get it at the 'Teeter. Oh! and most are open 24 hours! I think it will be a great change for Richmond and people will enjoy shopping there. Toni, I know you like people pushing groceries out to your car... but the Teeter (and actually all grocery stores in the south... Lowe's foods, bilo, Hanniford, etc) take the groceries out of the cart when you get to the counter. You know, like the carts are designed to go straight up to the conveyer belt and the cashier takes everything out of your cart. And they all have curb-side pick up, so you just pull your car to the front of the store and they load the groceries in. Good times for sure! :)

I'm just now reading this post, Toni, but all I can say is YIPPEEE FOR YOU! HT is one of my favorite stores in the world. They customer service is top notch (here in CHarlotte, anyway) and it's clean, fresh food and just a great store. I know that Ukrops is a good store, though, too. Keep everyone posted on if HT comes to Richmond. You won't be dissapointed:)
